The making of Italy's Nike kit (1995)

The inspiration: The rustic yet geometric patterns of Italy's streets and sidewalks.

The vibe: Capturing the rugged elegance of Italian stonework.

The badge: On the front of the jersey, the traditional badge of the Italian Republic was given a "fantastic" makeover.

The artist: Legendary Nike graphic designer Drake Ramberg: "The goal with any kit design is to make the players proud to put it on and represent club or country. So this shirt features key elements representing Italian culture and their legacy in calcio: The matte/shine jacquard pattern was inspired by the rustic pavers on Italian roads and sidewalks. The front medallion graphic pays homage to classic Italy badge and has 3 stars representing their World Cup victories in 1934, 1938 and 1982."

The debut: On the day of the kit's debut, Alessandro Del Piero plays his first match for the national team (against Ukraine).
