In 1994, they defeated Sao Paulo to claim the Copa Libertadores 2-1 on aggregate and then also beat AC Milan 2-0 to claim the Intercontinental Cup.

Carlos Bianchi's squad also included Roberto Trotta, Walter Pico, Omar Asad, Mauricio Pellegrino, Martin Posse and Hector Almandoz.
