Sale price£400

Condition: 7/10

Player: #9 Mohamed Akid

Comments: Classic home shirt worn by Tunisia in 1977/78 during their successful maiden World Cup qualification campaign for Argentina '78. They became the first African team to win a game at a finals, beating Mexico 3-1. They also drew 0-0 with West Germany on the final matchday but unfortunately did not qualify past the group stage.

Worn by striker Mohamed Akid, a CS Sfaxien legend who scored 126 goals in 307 appearances for the club. He also scored 15 goals for Tunisia in 52 caps.

Akid sadly died aged just 29. The circumstances surrounding the death have fuelled a controversy between his surviving family and the authorities. His family requested an autopsy, which was conducted on 18th July 2012, to determine the cause of his death and confirmed the presence of two shots in his body and the son of Akid confirmed the implication of the Crown prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The official version was that Akid was struck by lightning during a training session at his Saudi Arabian club Al-Riyadh on 11th April 1979.

The squad also included Ali Manai, Ali Kaabi, Mohamed Ben Rehaiem, Mohsen Labidi, Hamadi Agrebi and Témime Lahzami.

Generally aged, Adidas trefoil logo worn away, collar labels severed, few feint blemishes to white cuffs/collar (pictured).
